Australia in 2009 provides demographic, economic, and consumer spending forecasts for 2009 and 2010 and also analyses opportunities and risks. It provides survey data on what consumers expect to happen, a major factor which will influence their behaviour in 2009. There is also analysis of attitudinal and social trends.
There have been several economic shocks over the past year including a surge in oil prices, a stockmarket correction, and higher interest rates. The fallout of the US sub-prime mortgage crisis is still playing out. While there has been some slowing of economic growth, Australia's economy has been more resilient so far than many expected. Will this continue and are there other risks?
Of course there are opportunities too, including a pickup in the number of births and overall population growth amongst others Also, we identify who the big spenders are so that they can be better targeted.
This is the fourth annual report in the series, which started with Australia in 2006.
The Australia in 2009 report will be released in December 2008 and it will be preceded by a preview report in September 2008. The preview report will contain some economic forecasts, and analyse the mood of consumers.
